GILLS

A series of sheet membranes on the underside of the cap protect spores until environmental conditions favour their germination. They can be joined or spaced apart, appear as single entities or take on the appearance of folds, ribs or veins. Some exude latex. Their evocative shapes and captivating colours have inspired human imagination since time immemorial. The ancient Egyptians attributed magical qualities to them, while Mesoamerican cultures considered them a divine food. For our part, we are convinced that they’re not simple organisms, but an open door to extraordinary worlds.
