THE SPELL

In the sumptuous palace of the Rajah, his daughter Gamzatti is enthralled with the portrait of Solor, before which he claims his father’s hand. So without further delay, the ceremony is announced that the whole court attends. Upon seeing her for the first time, the warrior is dazzled. A true honor to receive as a wife the daughter of the Rajah… But there is a small problem: Solor just swear eternal love to Nikiya, who participates in addition to the nuptial dance. What to do then? Follow his heart? Succumb to the spell? To contradict the Great Lord? (Act I, scene II)
