EXCHANGING GLANCES

A bowerbird’s little legs follow the trail left by this choker. In an effort to attract the female to his bower, he decorated it with aluminum foil, white conches, and pink clips. And with shells, glass and soda cans. Now he takes a pause from his grueling task. He fixes his gaze upon her, hops around, and returns to his performance: he grabs a new ornament with his beak, jumps to the entrance, and fluffes his feathers. Suddenly, while spinning around, he winks at his sweetheart and disappears.
