Xul had a prodigious facility with languages. Once he broke his leg and was taken to the hospital and shared a room with a russian sailor. When he realized that he didn’t understand a word and that he couldn’t have a conversation with him, he asked his wife a grammar and russian dictionary. He studied them during the night, and the following day he was already talking in russian language with his roommate.
