FRUIT

A disquieting still life is displayed in the foreground. It’s little wonder that Caravaggio was a pioneer in the depiction of still life with the awareness of a pictorial work; as in this Bacchus, whose basket of fruit conceals a multitude of symbols: the grape, lust; the apple, sin; the open pomegranate, eternal life; the withered quince, the fleetingness of time. A play between the divine and the human, between reality and illusion, which we condense in this small piece in translucent green plexiglass with two fine golden leaves to illuminate your face.
