MAHARAJAH BY NIGHT

Hurt in his pride after Nikiya’s rejection, the Great Brahman chases the bayadère into deep forest. The evening goes by. Far away, two silhouettes dance and swear eternal love around the fire: They are Nikiya and Solor, oblivious to the rest of the world. Crazy for jealously, helplessly looking to the scene, the Maharajah launches his fatal judgement. The fortunate man one should only have one destiny. And this is none other than death. (Act I, scene I)
