During a session of The Five, the spirit of Amaliel contacts Hilma to have her capture the origin of the world through abstract art. After preparing for a year with fasting and meditation, she commits to painting exclusively under the guidance of this higher being, in what she considers “the most important work of her life.” Thus, between 1906 and 1915, she produces 193 masterpieces that would anticipate the great pioneers of abstraction, such as Kandinsky.
Without preliminary sketches, she advances with speed and confidence, guided by Amaliel, whom she associates with blue and violet—colors that are barely perceptible in the original, eclipsed by yellows and oranges. But, like threads running through the composition, we pull on them to develop this proposal, which is fundamentally the same but varies only in its chromatic base, allowing us to focus not so much on the result as on the creative process itself.
You will find it in The Ten Largest, No. 3, Youth, Group IV, 1907.
