Art, language, culture, imagination… were they unleashed thanks to fungi? Some argue that food shortages two million years ago forced Homo erectus to expand its diet. It had to try other foods. And by rummaging around, it discovered psilocybin in some magic mushrooms, the consumption of which led to changes in brain structure that expanded its capacities and triggered a new type of consciousness.
