Darkness

Vogelherd Grotto, 42,000 years ago. A girl penetrates a tiny cave opening clutching a flickering tallow lamp. Entering with delicate steps, she perceives the smoke of burned bones, hears strange sounds emanating from the depths. Except for the flickering light, there is total darkness. She walks around a well from which the sounds of hard, rushing water emerges, circumnavigates a muddy slope and crawls through a tunnel that leads to a chamber. Then she raises her lamp above her head and looks up. And there, high above, a chimerical creature, half deer, half woman, emerges with powerful antlers from which these Maxi earrings hang.
