The blackberry

Grapes, cherries, redcurrants and some splendid, disproportionately large blackberries are scattered across the central panel, serving as food, toys and a shelter for the most diverse range of characters. Their presence is not without reason, as they are a representation of the pleasures of the flesh and remind the spectator that, at that time, picking fruit was the same as procreating. The equation is simple: eating provides for the continuation of life and copulating generates new life. One character is busily working on a strawberry that several people are fighting over; another has transformed his head into a plump blue fruit, and for us these voluptuous earrings are a shortcut to… complete happiness.
