Svalbard

To understand what we’re talking about, we need to place it on a map: crossed by the 80th parallel north, Svalbard is the northernmost inhabited place on the planet. A harsh land of freezing cold winters, wild fauna and a rugged terrain covered with glaciers where the sun hardly rises, which the ancient Norse people christened cold ridge, just in case there were any other unnamed ridges left! Seeing humans around here is a big shock: after all, there are a thousand fewer inhabitants than polar bears and the few people that live on the island work at the Seed Bank.
