Not an earthquake, not a tsunami, but the rain. A fine and persistent rain, together with the thawing of the ground, seriously threatened the Vault for the first time ever back in 2017. The water didn’t reach the gene banks and the seeds were kept safe, but the threat of global warming had been felt for the first time in Svalbard. The authorities upped security, but the doubt loomed: would it resist? It seems that in the coming years the permafrost will be drastically reduced and rainfall will increase. And more water means more thawing. And more thawing means more floods. So, what can we do from here? For now, design an earring with the coldest materials available, such as mirrors and silver, to lower the temperature a bit.
