EVE

With eyes widened in surprise, Adam contemplates the beautiful Eve. It is not the traditional scene of creation, which has taken place at his expense, but one in which he realises that she exists, that she is real. Barely awakened from her eternal sleep, levitating and fragile, with pale and immaculate skin, she savours her first heartbeats in the Garden of Eden. Adam bursts out excitedly in a torrent of words, in which he calls her “bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. But the happiness won’t last forever. Coiled up in a palm tree, the snake waits patiently for the moment of temptation.
