Popularly known as The Tube, the London Underground is the oldest in the world. It opened to the public in 1863 with a line that connected Paddington Street with Farringdon and carried, on the day of its inauguration, 38,000 passengers in wooden wagons illuminated by gas lights. Little by little, its network expanded to reach 270 stations that connect over 250 miles of tracks and platforms swarming with the most diverse crowd: from pumped-up City workers to tourists and papiroga people from all over the planet!
