HIDDEN

The protagonists’ partners do not appear in front of the camera. We know them by their voices, their feet, their backs, reduced to vaporous silhouettes hovering in the shadows. Mrs Chan’s husband is always on the road, Mr Chow’s wife works as a night receptionist. They are invisible but yet powerfully present. An enigma, a pain, an unbearable burden. Mirrors and glass stand between them, capturing their thoughts. Crouching behind the curtains, the camera shows what is happening through glass: sometimes we see only a part of it or hear what is not meant for us. Everything is calculated: the rain that falls on the lovers, the unseen faces of the spouses, with a camera trying to find out what is happening between them, skilfully hidden behind the obstacle that hides them and inevitably pushes them apart.
