The obvious thing about islands, which one tends to forget once one has landed on them, is that they are water-creatures. This one was small. Cary´s clearing was bounded by almost impenetrable bush. There was no beach, and here the bush came right down to the shore. (Bear, Chap. VII, p. 34)
