Black tears

The first act advances and a new unforeseen event appears on stage. The Great Brahmin presupposes that the Rajah will end with Solor. But to his surprise, the governor’s purpose, is to kill the beautiful Nikiya! Gamzatti, who secretly follows the conversation, decides to meet with her, to persuade him to leave Solor. Desperate, the bayadère tries to hurt him, but a maid comes in, and runs away in tears to the night. The evil Gamzatti, as his father also did, will decree his death. (Act I, scene II)
