In ancient times, priests and magicians interpreted dreams for souls that could not see. They were the shamans or mahatmas, who made use of the elements of the Earth along with the signs of the Sun, the moon, and the stars. All of Hilma’s abstract images are born under that trance, in which she adopts a passive attitude and limits herself to receiving the messages. The spirits come from the astral world and are described as bright lights that distribute love and gratitude. They identify themselves as Gregory, Amaliel, and Ananda.

Unlike the original, in this design we want the two halves (orange and fuchsia) to glow, without shadows to contain them. These are the colors the artist chooses to speak of life in its fullness. In The Ten Largest, pinks and oranges color youth and maturity, the energy of the body, earthly love. If gold was the Sun and blue the moon, this is now the moment when they cross on the horizon, when the sky burns. Duality no longer pits light against darkness, but two energies that converse and reflect one another, returning the world multiplied according to the angle and the gaze. What if the Great Beyond were also made of fire?

You will find it in Mahatmas, Series II, 1920.
