It’s not for nothing that we call this bird a ‘paleopath’, as with its defiant look, enormous height and shoe-shaped beak, he has hardly changed since the Pleistocene. And his habits haven’t become much more civilised either: he tends to eat his siblings, urinate on his legs to lower body temperature, and cruelly scare away any intruder who comes with a kilometre radius! And not to mention his social life. Or his courtship rituals. Still, he has stolen our hearts. That’s why he has become, quite deservedly, our most precious antique.
