In ancient times, priests and magicians interpreted dreams for souls who could not see. These were the shamans or mahatmas, who drew upon the elements of the Earth along with the signs of the Sun, the moon, and the stars. All of Hilma's abstract images are born under that trance, in which she adopts a passive attitude and limits herself to receiving the messages. The spirits come from the astral world and are described as bright lights that distribute love and gratitude. They identify themselves as Gregory, Amaliel, Ananda.
With this combination, we descend from the sky to the Earth. In the artist’s code, green is born from the fusion of blue (feminine) and yellow (masculine): it is thus the color of union, of harmony achieved. And here we give it depth, opting for a dense tone like those she drew with the patience of a botanist. Beside it, copper, a metal of the Earth that conducts energy and which, over time and with exposure to air, ends up covered in green. The two as a mirror, so that the light travels the circle like a forest at sunset, igniting the copper and sinking into the green depending on the angle and the gaze. The same matter at two different moments of its transformation process, a small alchemical miracle contained within a circle.
You will find it in Mahatmas, Series II, 1920.
