In ancient times, priests and magicians interpreted dreams for souls that could not see. These were the shamans or mahatmas, who made use of the Earth's elements alongside signs from the Sun, the moon, and the stars. All of Hilma's abstract images are born under this trance, in which she adopts a passive attitude and limits herself to receiving the messages. The spirits come from the astral world and are described as bright lights that distribute love and gratitude. They identify themselves as Gregory, Amaliel, and Ananda.

In this color combination, we have returned the circle to its original white and turned the darkness into silver. For the artist, white is the color of the spirit, of love that no longer belongs to the body, which we have translated into matte mother-of-pearl: a light born from a shell at the bottom of the sea, with its own radiance. Beside it, the mirror silver reflects, like the moon, the light it receives. The contrast dissolves: there is no longer day or night or shadow to separate, but rather two whites that are barely distinguishable and which, together, resemble those bright lights that visited Hilma in her trance.

You will find it in Mahatmas, Series II, 1920.
